بَكَيتُ مِنَ الفِراقِ غَداةَ وَلَّت
بِنا بُزلُ الجِمالِ عَلى الفِراقِ
I wept at dawn when the camel litters departed
Bearing us away, to part from my loved ones.
فَما رَقَأَت دُموعُ العَينِ حَتّى
شَفى نَفسي الفِراقُ مِنَ التَلاقي
My tears had scarcely ceased ere separation
Cured my soul of seeing them together.
غَداً تَغدو مَطايا السَيرِ مِنّي
بِشَوقٍ لا يُقيمُ عَلى الرِفاقِ
Tomorrow the traveling camels will set out with me
Yearning that keeps no company.
وَأَستَبطي إِلى بَغدادَ سَيري
وَلَو أَنّي رَحَلتُ عَلى البُراقِ
I will urge my way toward Baghdad
Even if I had to go on Al-Burāq.
