A visitor visited me to ask about my state
As a friend asks a friend
How am I when the son of Jubair
Has become my close neighbor
Going and coming upon me so he doesn’t
Let me rest or awaken
He demands lunch while the sun hasn’t
Risen in the east or shone brightly
A primary stomach like the millstone
That takes in grains and gives out flour
And a hand that doesn’t stop throwing
Pieces of food that tire out the catapult
His gluttony shouted so we were deprived of the caller
It shouted in his throat, “Make way! Make way!”
As if the lad is gulping down mouthfuls
Recklessly or blocking up wells
And when the bread bowls were brought
I worried and feared he may die choking
