They were granted the joy of meeting at parting,
seeking refuge in weeping and embraces.
How often they hid their love for fear of separation,
and how often they concealed the burning thirst of longing.
Then parting loomed, and in it they met—
a parting that came upon them by chance.
How can I pray for parting itself to depart,
when their meeting came on the morning of parting?
