Leave the thing; do not seek it by the route that seems right
To your mind; hope for the thing where it is not expected.
If attachment to a man brings you no
Added benefit, it is wiser to leave him.
When fate has settled the outcome of a need,
It outstrips you, though you scorch its beginnings to ripeness.
And needs may prove fruitless—even those nearest within reach
In their seeker's eyes, and those whose path is clearest.
And Ibn al-Jarjara'i was not ignorant of my due
From him; yet he was the vilest brute among them.
And the most irksome man for me to satirize is a callow fool:
By stooping to satirize him, I go on being satirized myself.
