وَلَمّا نَزَلنا عُكبَراءَ وَلَم يَكُن

نَبيذٌ وَلا كانَت حَلالاً لَنا الخَمرُ

When we stopped at ʿUkbarāʾ, there was no

nabīdh, nor was wine lawful for us.

دَعَونا لَها بِشراً وَرُبَّ عَظيمَةٍ

دَعَونا لَها بِشراً فَأَصرَخَنا بِشرُ

We summoned Bishr for it—and many a dire plight

have we summoned Bishr to, and Bishr has rescued us.
