وَلَقَد أَرسَلتُ دَمعي شاهِداً
ذُمَّ صَيَّرَت إِلَيها المُشتَكى
And indeed I sent my tears as a witness.
[Then?] she directed the complaint to her.
فَتَوَلَّت ذُمَّ قالَت شُغُلي
كُلُّ مَن شاءَ تَباكى فَبَكى
So she turned away, [then?] said, 'My concern—
anyone who wishes can feign weeping and then weep.'
يا حَبيباً لَم أَنَل مِنهُ عَلى
طولي ما قاسَيتُ فيهِ دَرَكا
O beloved, from whom I never attained, despite
my long ordeal—what I endured for him—any fulfillment.
لَيتَ شِعري عَنكَ هَل تَذكُرُني
حينَ تَخلو مِثلَ ما أَذكُرُكا
Would that I knew about you: do you remember me
when you are alone, as I remember you?
