With her meeting my anguish was cured

When the next morning those sorrows were gone

Far from every goal, incapable of reaching the Nile

When she sways, her sides quiver

As a meadow sways when the wild cows roam

Her languor is beautiful, even deadly

As a polished sword is rightly admired

We stood there, our eyes busy

Her tearful glance fighting off her weakness

Her neck inclined until the necklace

Hung not too loose nor too tight

    Her wrists adorned with bangles

    Sway as she walks proudly

    Her straight posture corrected

By a natural poise not contrived

She walked as if on cushions

Though the litters were full and cramped

I say my heart grows ever sicker

Does one killed revive from further killing?

No mind crazed is cured by a heart

Excited by a fleeting glance, however dear

A new companion forgot old vows

And the old friend is now fickle

As long as the lover is true,

And the friend keeps his trust

I denounce those I once praised

If they are many, still they are few

Through all times we have true friends

Though relations change as fate does

Suspicion may pardon one hoped for

    As rainclouds pardon the hills

The absent beloved is not missed

    Rather, the beloved is forgotten!

The miser's lack grieves the beggar

As a miser's mother grieves his stinginess

    The girls wear holiday clothes

And finery stays if we wish

In life, we stay or take leave

    Both satisfy, or departure does

    Ala secured bounty's commencement

His guarantor - the carpenter's son

    The Arayhi loved gifts

    As the wine-sippers loved wine

He has lasting glory, and his father's sons

    Noble qualities, no pretensions

A people whose famed house all seek

    Their grandee's name is great

    If they extend lofty palms

    Theirs surpass all outstretched hands

    Though we travel different ways

    And reason arranges our paths

We go where our principles guide

And desire takes us where it wills

Abu Isa you rise high, yet you are

    Of noble soul and clan

My love for you has no excess

When right descends, as descend it will

But one of noble thoughts have I seen

    Generous, though not like you

When much is said and little done

Deeds, not words, tell what you will
