1. دَع دُموعي في ذَلِكَ الاِشتِياقِ

    تَتَناجى بِفِعلِ يَومِ الفِراقِ

    Leave my tears in that yearning

    To converse with the act of the day of parting

  2. فَعَسى الدَمعُ أَن يُسكَنَ بِالسَك

    بِ غَليلاً مِن هائِمٍ مُشتاقِ

    Perhaps tears will be calmed with complaint

    Of a passionate longing lover

  3. إِنَّ رَيّا لَم تَسقِ رَيّا مِنَ الوَص

    لِ وَلَم تَدرِ ماجَوى العُشّاقِ

    Verily a doe did not give drink to a doe

    And did not know the secrets of lovers

  4. بَعَثَت طَيفَها إِلَيَّ وَدوني

    وَخدُ شَهرَينِ لِلمَهاري العِتاقِ

    Her apparition sent me in my slumber

    With two rosy cheeks for the brave beloved

  5. زارَ وَهناً مِنَ الشَآمِ فَحَيّا

    مُستَهاماً صَبا بِأَعلى العِراقِ

    He visited weakness from Syria, so he greeted

    A morning in the highest place of Iraq

  6. فَقَضى ما قَضى وَعادَ إِلَيها

    وَالدُجى في ثِيابِهِ الأَخلاقِ

    He fulfilled what he did, and returned to her

    While gloom is in his silk clothes

  7. قَد أَخَذنا مِنَ التَلاقي بِحَذٍّ

    وَالتَلاقي في النَومِ عِدلُ التَلافي

    We have taken from meeting with eagerness

    And meeting in sleep is equal to union

  8. يا أَبا نَهشَلٍ وَلازِلتَ يَسقي

    كَ عَلى حالَةٍ مِنَ الغَيثِ ساقِ

    O Abu Nahshal you still give drink

    As if you are in a state of rain pouring

  9. لَو تَرى لَوعَتي وَحُزني وَوَجدي

    وَغَليلي وَحُرقَتي وَاِشتِياقي

    If you could see my agony, sorrow, fervor

    And my passion, burning, and yearning

  10. وَاِلتِفاتي إِلَيكَ مِن جَبَلِ القا

    طولِ وَالدَمعُ ساكِبٌ ذو اِندِفاقِ

    And my turning to you from Mount Qa

    With pouring tears of outpouring

  11. لَتَيَقَّنتَ أَنَّني صادِقُ الوُد

    دِ وَفِيٌّ بِالعَهدِ وَالميثاقِ

    You would be certain that I am truthful in love

    Loyal in pact and covenant

  12. وَبِنَفسي وَأُسرَتي حُسنُ ذاكَ ال

    أَدَبِ الأَريَحِيِّ وَالأَخلاقِ

    By my soul and my family’s good manner

    Of Arabi’s etiquette and morals

  13. وَالنَدى الصامِتِيُّ وَالمَلِكُ الأَبلَ

    جُ في أُخرَياتِ الرِواقِ

    The silent dew and the gracious king

    In the conclusion of the porch

  14. دائِمُ الاِنفِرادِ بِالرَأيِ في الخَل

    وَةِ لا يَتَّقي اللَيالي بِواقِ

    Always secluding with opinion in solitude

    Not fearing the nights with a companion

  15. تَتفادى الخُطوبُ إِن واجَهَتهُ

    حينَ يُغرى بِالفِكرِ وَالإِطراقِ

    Troubles avoid him if they meet him

    When he is tempted by thought and determination

  16. صامِتِيٌّ يَغدو فَتَغدو بِومنا

    هُ طَريقُ الآجالِ وَالأَرزاقِ

    Silent, he rises so the path of lifespan and provisions rise with him

    With a threat and appointment like pouring rain between thunder and lightning

  17. بِوَعيدٍ وَمَوعِدٍ كَاِنسِكابِ ال

    غَيثِ بَينَ الإِرعادِ وَالإِبراقِ

    And assets he made for gathering

    Wealth he made for separation

  18. وَمَعالٍ أَصارَها لِاِجتِماعٍ

    شَملُ مالٍ أَصارَهُ لِاِفتِراقِ

    And gifts that come as comrades but depart

    As comrades of the well-being after comrades

  19. وَعَطايا تَأتي رِفاقاً فَيَصدُر

    نَ رِفاقَ العافينَ بَعدَ الرِفاقِ

    Coming and going with a sign of generosity

    Spreading its shade upon the horizons

  20. مُقبِلٌ مُدبِرٌ بِعارِضِ جودٍ

    باسِطٍ ظِلَّهُ عَلى الآفاقِ

    And with determination, if it repelled dawn, no face

    Would have accepted the east in its rising

  21. وَبِعَزمٍ لَو دافَعَ الفَجرَ ما أَق

    بَلَ وَجهٌ لِلشَرقِ في إِشراقِ

    And glory, if it were for the full moon

    The judgment of disappearance would not have passed in it

  22. وَجَلالٍ لَو كانَ لِلقَمَرِ البَد

    رِ لَما جازَ فيهِ حُكُمُ المُحاقِ

    Generosity flows from abundant giving

    And might from pouring blood

  23. يَصدُرُ الجودُ عَن عَطاءٍ جَزيلٍ

    مِنهُ وَالبَأسُ عَن دَمٍ مُهَراقِ
