1. ذاكَ وادي الأَراكِ فَاِحبِس قَليلاً

    مُقصِراً مِن صَبابَةٍ أَو مُطيلا

    That valley of Al-Arak, so stay awhile

    Whether shortened from youth or prolonged

  2. قِف مَشوقاً أَو مُسعِداً أَو حَزيناً

    أَو مُعيناً أَو عاذِراً أَو عَذولا

    Stop longing, happy, or sad

    Or helping, excusing, or turning away

  3. إِنَّ بَينَ الكَثيبِ فَالجَزعِ فَالآ

    رامِ رَبعاً لِآلِ هِندٍ مُحيلا

    Between the sand dune, the rugged ground, and the slopes

    There is a place for the family of Hind to lodge

  4. أَبلَتِ الريحُ وَالرَوائِحُ وَالأَيّا

    مُ مِنهُ مَعالِماً أَو طُلولا

    The wind, the fragrances, and the days

    Have erased its features, or made them fade

  5. وَخِلافُ الجَميلِ قَولِكَ لِلذا

    كِرِ عَهدَ الأَحبابِ صَبراً جَميلا

    Better than beauty, is to tell the rememberer

    To be patient with the days of loved ones

  6. لا تَلُمهُ عَلى مُواصَلَةِ الدَم

    عِ فَلُؤمٌ لَومُ الخَليلِ الَخَليلا

    Do not blame him for continuing to shed tears

    For it would be base to blame a sincere friend

  7. عَلَّ ماءَ الدُموعِ يُخمِدُ ناراً

    مِن جَوى الحُبِّ أَو يَبُلُّ غَليلا

    The water of tears can extinguish a fire

    Of love's ardour, or remove anguish

  8. وَبُكاءُ الدارِ مِمّا يَرُدُّ ال

    شَوقَ ذِكراً وَالحُبَّ نِضواً ضَئيلا

    And the weeping of the abode is what repels

    Yearning with remembrance, and love with little comfort

  9. لَم يَكُن يَومُنا طَويلاً بِنَعما

    نَ وَلَكِن كانَ البُكاءُ طَويلا

    Our day was not long with bliss

    But the crying was long

  10. قاد وَجَدنا مُحَمَّدَ اِبنِ عَلِيٍّ

    غايَةَ المَجدِ قائِلاً وَفَعولا

    We found Muhammed son of Ali

    The epitome of glory, saying and doing

  11. وَلَقَينا شَمائِلاً تَنثُرُ المِس

    كَ سَحيقاً كَما لَقينا الشُمولا

    And we saw traits that scattered musk

    As we saw clothes in disarray

  12. وَرَأَينا سيما نَدىً وَسَماحٍ

    لَم نُرِد بَعدَها عَلَيهِ دَليلا

    We saw a mark of dew and leniency

    After which we did not want evidence

  13. أَشعَرِيُّ حَباهُ عيسى اِبنُ موسى

    شَرَفاً باتَ لِلسِماكِ رَسيلا

    An Ash'ari whom Isa son of Musa endowed

    With nobility that reached the highest summit

  14. وَجَواداً لَو أَنَّ عافيهِ راموا

    بُخلَهُ لَم يَرَوا إِلَيهِ سَبيلا

    And generosity - had the stingy sought

    To deny it, they would find no way

  15. خَلَّفَ الفَوتَ لِلجِيادِ وَأَلقى

    في مَدى المَجدِ غُرَّةً وَحُجولا

    He left opportunities for the steeds and threw

    Himself into the expanse of glory, unveiled and galloping

  16. بَلَغَ المَكرُماتِ طولاً وَعَرضاً

    وَتَناهَت إِلَيهِ عَرضاً وَتُلا

    Honor reached its length and width

    And extended to him in width and folds

  17. وَبَنو الأَشعَرِ الَّذي مَلَأَ الأَر

    ضَ رِجالاً وَنَجدَةَن وَخُيولا

    And the clan of Ash'ar who filled the earth

    With men, helpers, and horses

  18. شَوكَةٌ ما أَصابَتِ الدَهرَ إِلّا

    تَرَكَت في الغِرارِ مِنهُ فُلولا

    A resilient clan - whenever it hit time

    It only left ruins in the desolate places

  19. رادَةُ المَجدِ أَوَّلاً وَأَخيراً

    وَأُولو المَجدِ واحِداً وَقَبيلا

    The pursuit of glory, first and last

    And the glorious ones are one clan

  20. وَنُجومٌ إِذا تَوَقَّدنَ في الخَط

    بِ تَوَهَّمتَ في النُجومِ أُفولا

    And stars - when they shine forth

    You imagine the falling of stars in the stars

  21. فَكَأَنَّ الأُصولَ كانَت فُروعاً

    وَكَأَنَّ الفُروعَ كانَت أُصولا

    It is as if the origins were branches

    And the branches were origins

  22. وَمِحِبّونَ لِلرَسولِ وَأَهلِ ال

    بَيتِ حُبّاً يُرضونَ فيهِ الرَسولا

    And the lovers of the Messenger and People of the House

    With a love that pleases the Messenger

  23. سَلَبوا أَبيضَ بَزَّها فَأَقاموا

    بِظُباها التَأويلَ وَالتَنزيلا

    They took its white skin so they remained

    With its interpretation and revelation

  24. تَحسِبُ الشيبَ في الوَقيعَةِ شُبّا

    ناً إِذا صافَحَ الصَقيلُ الصَقيلا

    You reckon the white hair from the calamity as youth

    When the polished meets the polished

  25. فَإِذا حارَبوا أَذَلّوا عَزيزاً

    وَإِذا سالَموا أَعَزّوا ذَليلا

    So when they fight they humiliate the mighty

    And when they make peace they honor the disgraced

  26. وَإِذا عِزُّ مَعشَرٍ زالَ يَوماً

    مَنَعَ السَيفُ عِزَّهُم أَن يَزولا

    And if the glory of a group departs one day

    The sword prevents their glory from vanishing

  27. يا أَبا جَعفَرٍ لَقَد راحَ إِفضا

    لُكَ خَطباً عَلى الكِرامِ جَليلا

    Oh Abu Ja'far, your superiority has departed

    Eloquently upon the generous, gloriously

  28. رَدَّ مَعروفُكَ الكَثيرَ قَليلا

    وَأَرى جودُكَ الجَوادَ بَخيلا

    Your abundant kindness returned little

    And I see your generosity making the generous miserly

  29. لا أَظُنُّ البُخّالَ يوفونَكَ الشُك

    رَ وَلَو كانَ بُكرَةً وَأَصيلا

    I do not think the misers will thank you

    Even if it was early and late

  30. جَعَلَتهُم مِن غَيرِهِم دُفَعٌ مِن

    كَ أَفادَت حَمداً وَأَعطَت جَزيلا

    Your giving from other than them gave praise

    And bestowed abundantly

  31. كَم لِجَدواكَ مِن مَقامٍ لَعَمري

    كانَ مِن رَيِّقِ السَحابِ بَديلا

    How many positions of your generosity

    Were like the dripping of clouds alternatively

  32. عِندَ وَجهٍ طَلقٍ إِذا ما تَبَدّى

    لِحُزونِ الخُطوبِ عادَت سُهولا

    In the presence of a serene face - if it appeared

    To the sorrowful it returned eased

  33. يَئِسَ الحاسِدونَ مِنكَ وَكانوا

    أَسَفاً يَنظُرونَ نَحوَكَ حولا

    The envious have despaired of you and were

    Regretfully looking toward you perplexed

  34. وَرَأَوا أَنَّهُم إِذا وَصَلواتِ

    كَ المَساعي بِالفِكرِ ذابوا نُحولا

    And they saw that when they compared

    Their efforts to you mentally, they melted away

  35. فَثَنوا عَنكَ أَعيُناً وَقُلوباً

    لَم يَرُدّوا إِلّا حَسيراً كَليلا

    So they turned their eyes and hearts away

    Not looking back except degraded and despised

  36. وَكَفاني عَلى الَّذي يوجَدُ الفَض

    لُ لَدَيهِ بِالحاسِدينَ دَليلا

    And it suffices me - He who bestows superiority

    Is with you a proof against the envious
