The one I loved has spurned me after ardour

And then the bird of fortune took its flight

God has decreed that I should melt and waste

    And wasting comes on everythingbrand-new

In youth the fancy for the fair is linked

To sprightliness; and far unlike is near

Perchance I was a suitor of sweet maids

And coveted them all, both dark and bright

How much pure honey and sweet wine I quaffed

And both of us are victims of wood aloes

And both of us the zephyr had imbued

With fragrance - Eisa son of Khalid son of Walid

A horseman who surpasses horsemen, when

The mountains of iron clash in fight, smites with the sword
