1. I surely hope for God's intervention concerning Hasan,

    and the son of the foolish al-Tabakhshiyya is reviled.

  2. When al-Ta'i joins in commending me, I see no

    figure of deprivation, nor does ill fortune cling to me.

  3. A man had once thwarted me over him; that course was taken

    by his forefathers, and baseness ran in his veins.

  4. So now one aids me whose side is never

    oppressed, nor is his protégé wronged.

  5. Whenever he calls upon Badr, seeking troops through him,

    the noble Arabs and the Romans rally to one another's aid.
