1. I saw you fulfill what you had not promised,

out of faithfulness, and do what you had not spoken of.

  2. I asked according to my worth, and you gave me

according to yours, doubling a half into a whole.

  3. So my limited ambition did me no harm,

if you double for me what I ask.

  4. And you kept me safe from the enemies’ gloating,

while I feared its bitterness and felt dread.

  5. So may God keep you safe from the pitfalls of calamities,

and shield you from slips into error.

  6. And when you took charge of my affairs, I sat

back from striving, confident and reliant.

  7. And I said, “Yes, my need has been met,”

where before I would say, “Maybe,” or “Perhaps.”

  8. And the people know that the one

you charge with a burden must bear it.

  9. And that you help them with much—

so why not help with what is little?

  10. And you made no excuses concerning what they request,

so would you accept excuses concerning what I asked?

  11. And you did not demean them by withholding what is valuable,

so would you consent to your standing being demeaned?
