Passion and longing enslaved him.
His youth was afflicted with longing and yearning
And parting grieved him on the day of parting.
And the day of parting pained his heart with parting
Tears helped him weep;
Tears aided his sobbing
the inner corners of the eyes helped them flow.
And plentifully flowed from their well
How often are garment necklines torn in mourning for parting,
How clothes are torn in the house of bereavement
and tender cheeks bleed for it.
And cheeks bloodied by intense grief
The eyes released a tear when
The tears poured forth when
a journey and departure for parting began in earnest.
The camel set off on its journey of departure

His [unclear word] is in al-Sham, in the throes of death,
I miss him in Damascus in the darkness of death
and Iraq has enfolded his body.
While his body lies buried in Iraq
