How grievous to me that he should depart, parting
It pains me that he will soon depart from us
From us in haste—my brother and yours.
In haste, my brother and your brother.
He was the horsemen’s Antarah in valor,
He was the aid of knights like Antarah,
Dripping blood, and Urwah the brigand.
Protecting the vulnerable and unruly alike.
And the hero of Banu Abs; ever the young man
A hero of the Bani Abs tribe, their men
Among them, upon reaching his prime, seeks you out.
Remain undaunted when called to arms.
Noble in lineage; yet, if you wished, you would find him
Seek him at the wells, free though enslaved,
In character a slave to generosity.
A prized possession there to greet the dew.
We shall perish as he did, and drink his cup, the
Let us call out as he called out and drink his cup
Brimming one, and follow his well-trodden path.
Brimming, and follow in his steps.
He was no better than your father; and there passed away,
None finer than your father, though he is gone,
In the years gone by, your father.
Lost to the vanishing years, our sire.
We find solace for his loss because you remain after him; but had you been the
Tell him you are his heir, though if not,
Man sent ahead, we could not have found solace for your loss.
We would not hail you first among us.
