Did you not see me on the day I parted from him,
Did you not see me on the day I left him
bidding him farewell while love sought more?
Bidding him farewell, while passion grew?
I turn away when I have bid him farewell,
I try to leave him, when it comes time to part,
but longing overcomes me until I return.
But then longing overcomes me, and I return.
Is there a journey for us every day,
Does each day not bring us a new separation,
so someone near grows distant, and someone distant draws near?
Drawing a loved one near, and one far away?
So if longing wears me out after his departure,
And if, after he leaves, longing comes over me,
then my yearning for him is fresh.
My yearning for him will ever be new.
