I complain to God of three things, and they are:
I complain to God of three things that afflict me:
hunger, being far from home, and bachelorhood.
Hunger, estrangement, and loneliness.
And we are guests of Abu Khalid,
We are guests of Abi Khalid,
wandering between the palace and the courtyard.
Wandering between the palace and the wide open space.
No food reaches anyone but him,
Food does not reach anyone but him,
as though we were being made lean for the racecourse.
As if we are fattened for slaughter.
