إِذا ما حُصِّلَت عُليا قُرَيشٍ

إِذا ما حُصِّلَت عُليا قُرَيشٍ

فَلا في العيرِ أَنتَ وَلا النَفيرِ

فَلا في العيرِ أَنتَ وَلا النَفيرِ

When the noblest of Quraysh are reckoned,

If the leadership of Quraysh is achieved

then you are neither in the caravan nor in the war band.

You will not take part in raids or expeditions

وَما رَغَثانُكَ الجَهمُ بنُ بَدرٍ

وَما رَغَثانُكَ الجَهمُ بنُ بَدرٍ

مِنَ الأَقمارِ ثُمَّ وَلا البُدورِ

مِنَ الأَقمارِ ثُمَّ وَلا البُدورِ

Nor is your Raghathan, al-Jahm son of Badr,

Nor will the lies of Jahm ibn Badr

among the moons, nor yet among the full moons.

Distract you from the full moons and the planets

وَلَو أَعطاكَ رَبُّكَ ما تَمَنّى

وَلَو أَعطاكَ رَبُّكَ ما تَمَنّى

عَلَيهِ لَزادَ في غِلَظِ الأُيورِ

عَلَيهِ لَزادَ في غِلَظِ الأُيورِ

And if your Lord gave you what you wish

Even if your Lord gave you all you wished for

of Him, He would increase the girth of cocks.

It would only increase the thickness of burdens upon you

لِأَيَّةِ حالَةٍ تَهجو عَلِيّاً

لِأَيَّةِ حالَةٍ تَهجو عَلِيّاً

بِما لَفَّقتَ مِن كَذِبٍ وَزورِ

بِما لَفَّقتَ مِن كَذِبٍ وَزورِ

Why do you revile Ali

For what situation do you slander Ali

with the lies and falsehood you have patched together?

With the lies and falsehood you fabricated

أَما لَكَ في اِستِكَ الوَجعاءِ شُغلٌ

أَما لَكَ في اِستِكَ الوَجعاءِ شُغلٌ

يَكُفُّكَ عَن أَذى أَهلِ القُبورِ

يَكُفُّكَ عَن أَذى أَهلِ القُبورِ

Have you not enough to occupy you with your aching arse,

Do you not have enough to preoccupy you in your painful situation

to keep you from harming the dwellers of the graves?

To refrain from harming the people of graves
