Tell Asma: Fulfill the promise,
Tell Asma to keep the promise,
And see that you give me sustenance from yourself.
And see how you can provide yourself with provisions.
If you have settled in an abode in al-Shā—
If you have pitched your tent a quarter way through the desert,
—m, and dwelt beside Himyar and Murad,
And dwelled near donkeys seeking their goal,
Then, when you hear from the direction of my land
And if you hear from somewhere near my land
Of a lovesick wanderer who may die, or is said to have nearly died,
Of one wandering who dies or nearly does,
Know with certainty that I am that—
Know with certainty that it is I,
—one, and weep bitterly for one struck down outright.
Weeping for one I intended to reach.
