1. We come to visit you in illness; it would be dearer

    to us if you received visits, but not in illness.

  2. You have mastered noble virtues; neither deficiency

    nor excess makes you miss their proper measure.

  3. And no doubt troubles the judge

    that you are the swift, noble steed of his racecourse.

  4. You have revived his virtues among us; but for

    your perfection, they could not have been revived.

  5. And you are his successor, lord over the

    noblest sons, and ruled over by none.

  6. And for some of them, their father is to them

    as fire is to the ashes that succeed it.
