1. Indeed, liberality, magnanimity, and bounty

    belong to the generous youth, Ahmad ibn al-Haytham.

  2. The virtues of chivalry have made him a blaze,

    white upon the face of dark-hued time.

  3. A king who built lofty glory for the Azd,

    with the two white things—his keen sword and the dirham.

  4. His forefathers are proud kings; whenever he traces his descent,

    he traces it to kings endowed with noble virtues.

  5. Forefathers of true worth, who by their deeds straightened

    time's crooked neck, though it had not been rightly formed.

  6. They inherited liberality and bequeathed it, so you see

    no place for generosity to linger among any but them.

  7. Valiant, mighty chiefs—they became generosity's successors,

    in bounty, liberality, and magnanimity.
