1. Youth has departed, and all things depart.

    And man is held hostage to what is to come.

    Indeed, whoever abides amid vicissitudes is bound to depart.

  3. Youth has gone, and the water of its lustre has ebbed.

    So today every draught from it is stale.

  4. Its beauties have faded, and its raven has flown.

    And surely it once had kindnesses for you,

  5. In the days when your gaze lay in wait for the oryx calves,

    And death lurked in the oryx calves' pupils.

  6. Time has betrayed your brother in his pleasures.

    Indeed, Time is treacherous to every noble man.
