1. We have come to farewell, yet you are not forsaken.

    We shall preserve your pledge, never letting it be lost.

  2. Indeed, by Him who preserves you for praise and generosity,

    longing will surely pierce what lies between my ribs;

  3. and you will exact from my eye its due of tears,

    and a heart never frightened before will quake.

  4. And among the strangest things is that our hearts

    remain whole, not torn apart by fear of parting.

  5. And if the flow of tears were equal

    to the force of grief, it would gush from every tear duct.

  6. But only a little flowed, doled out sparingly,

    and a scant measure of tears was not enough.

  7. So may the downpour of praise drench you in every abode,

    and may time's rain shower you in every spring pasture.

  8. And may you ever be escorted by gracious favor,

    just as I am not escorted by patience.
