    sound judgment when opinions grow confused:

  6. what you have demanded of me is crooked excess,

    and excessive burdens are an injustice.

  7. I have no complaint against any misfortune;

    consider me the star that rose and then fell.

  8. I am not the man who, if you drop him

    from your reckoning, falls among those who pin their hopes on you.

  9. The custom of the days is fresh to me:

    a friendship that turns away, or a dwelling that grows distant.
