May my father be your ransom; generosity befits you.
By your father you are worthy of kindness
And other endeavors come after, while yours comes first.
And your efforts still continue while mine have ceased
And a small gift grows great, if
Even a little gift grows large if willed
the one who hopes in you so wishes; and a great gift grows small.
By He who you hope in, while a great one diminishes
Yet I returned your gift, since it was
Except I have returned your kindness when it
usury from you—and usury is not lawful.
Was a loan from you, and usury is forbidden
And when you repay a poem with poetry
And if you repay poetry with poetry
that fulfils what is due, then the dinars are surplus.
Reaching the truth, then gold coins are superior
