O Nasim, does Time hold any true promise
Does fate have a true promise,
for what the ardent lover hopes for?
In what the ardent lover hopes for?
Why have I lost you in dreams, though you have always been
Why did I miss you in my dreams, while you remained
a solace to the yearning lover when his beloved shuns him?
The aid of longing, when the yearner is shunned?
Were you yourself barred from visiting, for fear
Are you forbidden from visiting, obedient,
of them? Then was the night-visiting vision also barred?
To them? Is the illusory reflection forbidden too?
Today my passion has exceeded the measure it had
Today destiny’s portion passed me by,
at its outset, and I have realized that I am in love.
And I knew I am a lover.
So may it gladden al-Hasan ibn Wahb that he
So may Hasan ibn Wahb rejoice that
meets his loved ones, while we part.
He meets his loved ones while we bid farewell.
