I am now in hardship and distress,
I'm in distress and in calamity
Enslaved by love, robbed of reason.
Yearning, with a heart that’s been stripped bare
Love has bequeathed me abiding, burning anguish;
Love has burdened me with lasting passion
I seek God's aid against love.
I seek God's help against this love
She unleashed sorrow by turning away—
Her rejection unleashed the sorrow
Ẓalūm—and so took possession of my heart.
So the cruel one took hold of my heart
