1. May my soul shield you, and both my parents,

    And all whom they begot, from misfortunes.

  2. The burden of the land tax is a painful debt upon me;

    And with you lies the cure for what I suffer.

  3. You are the physician for my wound's affliction, and the one

    With whose remedy I drive away my illness, without a doubt.

  4. And you have already given me your promise concerning it;

    So grant me the favor of lightening my payment.

  5. Indeed, the value of what remains of my land tax

    Is not, to you, even the cost of a lunch.

  6. So favor me by fasting for a single day,

    And give me your lunch, for in it lies all I need.
