1. O Abu Salih, friend of righteousness,

and brother of generosity, and peer of munificence.

  2. I do not think morning measures up to the radiance

of bright virtues within your two courtyards.

  3. What can match your fragrance except

musk's aroma on the breath of the winds?

  4. Yet gallantry has been drawn away from

you, diverted toward youth and merriment,

  5. where reason is humbled and youthful dalliance exalted,

and passion stays, and the reprover departs.

  6. With an erect gaze, he ceaselessly casts

    glances that impregnate before intercourse.

  7. And he raids fingers by touching

them at the bottoms of the goblets.

  8. Or shields spend the night, though there is no war,

    splitting open around the spearheads.

  9. We are estranged, while you are distracted from us

by coupling with anuses and vulvas.

  10. And by my life, on many a day we paired

your draughts of generosity with draughts of wine.
