1. Abu Nahshal, your judgment is convincing

when the most hideous calamity strikes.

  2. So what did you desire from al-Khuttali,

and is there any pleasure for you in the bull?

  3. You drink with him while he is in a condition

that harms drinking companions and brings no benefit.

  4. Do you not see a finger in his anus,

moving about, and a finger in the corner of his mouth?

  5. And he passes a turd among you

when the brimming goblet bloats him.

  6. When he raids a turd

lying on the ground, he is a sow with young at her heels.

  7. And in this, our Ibn Kalbi would not

do even part of what he does.

  8. So woe to Abu al-Barq's verse if

the gray-haired man, bald at the temples, circles it!

  9. He will devour it, relieving people

of its stench, then still not be sated.
