Love roamed among all God's creatures,
Passion roamed among all of God's creations
until, when it passed by me among them, it stopped.
Until it passed by me from among them and stopped
I said, when I saw death descending upon me,
When I saw death coming down upon me
and my death-herald almost proclaimed my passing—or had proclaimed it:
And my obituary caller nearly cried out to me
I die of longing and shall never meet you!
I die of longing, never to see you again
Oh, my sorrow! Then, oh, my longing, and oh, my grief!
Oh what regret, then oh what longing and oh what sorrow
Indeed, I marvel at a heart that loves you,
I wonder at a heart that loves you
yet sees neither affection nor kindness from you.
And sees from you no affection or kindness
