1. Your land has taken the place of my homeland for me.

    And I see your ancestral wealth now nearer than my own.

  2. So that it is as though I never left my homeland, nor

    Did my enviers gloat over the loss of my prosperity.

  3. And you have indeed promised, yet in my life there is a hindrance

    To my securing the fulfillment of that promise.

  4. And the promise you confirmed is redoubled

    By the fact that the one you gave to is a bitter enemy.

  5. Do you think the intercessor, though you have already ordered my need met,

    Hopes thereby to win my gratitude?

  6. And when the sick man has recovered from what ails him,

    No reward is expected for those who visit him.
