1. Bahāʾ al-Dawla’s auspicious fortunes made ready the celestial sphere—

    the highest—so that no star within it is anything but fortunate.

  2. And when the Feast met him, it found its very counterpart in him:

    for every day of his reign is, through him, a feast.

  3. Nor are your dazzling endeavors content

    that one man present should prosper through another’s absence.

  4. Thus, by this judgment, brevity is more eloquent in

    describing your excellence than excessive embellishment.
