  1. Before seeing for himself, the Domestikos received

    a report whose telling books cannot contain.

  2. The white swords whispered to him of you from afar,

    in counsel; and terror saved his army.

  3. He fled; had you wished, when he escaped,

    to overtake him, flight would not have saved him.

  4. O guardian of Islam, who protects it

    from doubt assailing its truth:

  5. if you are willing to be obeyed by what

    they bow down to, the crosses would bow to you.
