وَفي الحَقيقَةِ لَولا أَنَّ مُعتَقِلي

عَنِ السُرى جودُ سَيفِ الدَولَةِ المَلِكِ

In truth, if not for my jailers preventing

Me from journeying, the openhandedness of King Saif al-Dawla

لِما اِقتَصَرتُ عَلى غَيرِ المَسيرِ إِلى

مَن حَظّهُ في المَعالي غَير مُشتَركِ

Would have kept me from limiting myself to any but

He whose portion of glory no other shares.

لكِنَّهُ فَلَكُ الفَضلِ المُحيطِ وَما

مِن عادَةِ الشَمسِ أَن تَنأى عَنِ الفَلَكِ

But he is the all-encompassing sphere of nobility, and

It is not the sun's custom to distance itself from the celestial sphere.
