I would ransom with my soul what ails him whose gaze's wine
With my soul, he complains of the one whose glance went astray,
And narcissus are roses from what has afflicted his beauty.
And his narcissism from what his beauty and flowers brought.
The charms of his face unjustly shed my blood,
My blood was shed unjustly by the beauty of his face,
So now its traces appear in his eyes.
So traces of it began to appear in his eyes.
His eye became like his cheek, until it seemed as though
His eyes became like cheeks, as though
His cheek had watered his eye with the water of its rosy tint.
His eyes were watered by his cheeks.
Even if my master's eye has become inflamed,
If the eyes of my possessor have become bleary,
Indeed, inflamed eyes have often sought healing through it.
Many a bleary eye has certainly been healed by them.
