ذخرت أبي نصر لحظ أناله

ذخرت أبي نصر لحظ أناله

فبلغني أقصى المنى ببني نصر

فبلغني أقصى المنى ببني نصر

I kept Abu Nasr in reserve for a share of fortune I might attain;

My father's wealth, Nasr, I hoarded for when I'd attain it

So he brought me to the utmost of my wishes through the sons of Nasr.

Thus did I reach the height of wishes through Nasr's sons

وجدتهم الذخر القديم ولم أكن

وجدتهم الذخر القديم ولم أكن

علمت بأن الذخر يعزى إلى الدهر

علمت بأن الذخر يعزى إلى الدهر

I found them the age-old treasure, and I had not

I found them my former treasure, though unaware was I

Known that treasure is ascribed to time.

That treasure's ascribed to fate, not to the years
