1. O you who plunge into an affair, wishing that

    its outcome might remain plainly before your eyes,

  2. join another’s judgment to your own, and seek counsel—

    for truth is not hidden from two minds.

  3. For a person is a mirror that shows him his face,

    and he sees the back of his head by bringing two mirrors together.

  4. O heart, free yourself from cares and sorrows;

    seize time’s opportunities before it betrays you.

  5. Do not grieve, for bearing the burden of worry is madness;

    whatever is decreed to be must be.
