سألتُ ومِن خُلُقي أنَّني

أُقاسي الخطوبَ ولا أَسْألُ

I asked—though by nature I am one who

endures calamities and does not ask.

لِعُذْريَ فاقْبَلْ وكنْ عالِماً

بأنّي لعُذْرِكَ لا أَقبَل

So accept my excuse, and know full well

that I will not accept your excuse.
