عَهْدٌ تغَيَّرَ من سُعادَ ومَعهدُ

فعلام يكْثُرُ عاذِلٌ ومُفَنِّدُ

A pact that changed from joy and covenant

So why does the blamer and invalidator abound?

لا حُلْتُ عن عَهدِ الأحبّةِ في الهوى

وإن استحالَ الرّبْعُ عمّا أعهَد

I did not depart from the pact of the loved ones in passion

Even if the season turned from what I was accustomed to

إن كنتَ تُسعِدُني فإنّي مغرمٌ

أو كنتَ ذا شَجَنٍ فإنّي مُسعِد

If you make me happy, then I am infatuated

Or if you are melancholic, then I am made happy

أبكي الّذِين تشَعّبَت النّوى

بهمُ فغاروا في البلادِ وأنجدوا

I cry for those whom intentions branched out with them

So they hid in the lands and became remote

بَعُدوا وَوَكَّل ناظِري بخيالهم

ذِكْرِى لهم فكأنّهم لم يَبْعُدوا

They went far away and my watcher was entrusted with their images

My memory of them - it is as if they never went far away
