I sacrifice myself for you, time has bared its fangs

At a gallant youth, in whom are wounds of suffering

My days have passed unjustly upon me, and how many do you see

    A judge's complaint from a judge's vengeance

I hoped but time kept on being hostile

    Plunging me into every torment

My leaving you satisfied, so I was allowed

Your leaving me, and I am not satisfied

I have a debt of generosity, though I am silent

To leave claiming to the noble is satisfaction

If I were not away today in a foreign land

Instead of claiming I would overlook

I have no strength to return to homelands

    Nor readiness for travels passed

My rain of generosity if it poured down

Gratitude would come in its trails, gardens

With a carrier of burdens, when the youth travels

    Long distances joined, plains

If he becomes under a traveler's mount

He goes like the going of Al-Harith bin Mudath

Praise the heights as long as in time there is a writer

Who pens blackness in which over white
