My soul be ransom for your young beloved, with all his visible charms—
at times, for love of him, he kills me and revives me.
Never do I spend a night harboring in my heart the thought of visiting him
but he sends a dream-apparition of himself to summon me.
A full moon who, when he stands erect, shows you
a bough surpassing the Khattī spear in suppleness.
God fashioned him as a mortal from His light,
and fashioned all creation from water and clay.
