قَد بَشَرتك بِمصرَ بَعض مَعاشر

لَم يَعلَموا الأَقوال في تَأويلِها

I gave you a glimpse of Egypt, companions

Who did not know the words to interpret them

مَصرٌ أَقل نَدا أَياديك الَّتي

مِن فَيض نائِلها أَصابع نَيلِها

Egypt, how meager are the hands

That from its flooding bounty, grasped its Nile
