1. If ever you visit the precincts of the heart’s desire,

    in Konya, then convey to them my greetings.

  2. And say: O delight of the eyes in beauty,

    may the rain cloud’s wellspring water your valley.

  3. How many a singing gray dove I answered song for song,

    upon its tender boughs there, out of love;

  4. how many a kohl-eyed gazelle I encountered,

    and how many a moon at the full I beheld.

  5. A breeze stirred through the quarter when

    the scent of balsam came upon the quarter by night.

  6. I was entranced by it, and Time itself, for rapture, nearly

    went love-mad at the passion it beheld.

  7. Upon that shrine and all that lies around it,

    be greetings from the Lord, the Source of Peace.
