1. خَفض عَليك فَما الفُؤاد بِسالي

    وَقف الدُموع لِدارس الأَطلالِ

    My heart is not tranquil over you, so tears stand still for the dweller of ruins

    Sense of crying has built up in its yards, our sights from other than it with reason

  2. دِمَنٌ عَلى عَرصاتِها عَقل البُكا

    أَبصارُنا عَن غَيرِها بِعقال

    Its nights have gone with their splendor after they were a tent of freshness and beauty

    And without my patience near me after the separation, nor is my mind focused

  3. ذَهَبَت بِرَونَقِها اللَيالي بَعدَما

    كانَت مُخَيم نَضارة وَجَمال

    I did not expect before the day they left, that destiny would befall with terms

    They left so every brother who loved and was youthful, stood remembering and questioning

  4. وَبَلايَ ما صَبري لَدَيّ بِقاطن

    بَعدَ الخَليط وَلا هَوايَ بِبالي

    And it was hard to remember for the pacts and injuries, fluttering of the sand grouse and breeze of the myrtles

    It preoccupied my heart with futilities since I wore his blood so they are my anklets

  5. ما كُنتُ أَحسَب قَبل يَوم فِراقهم

    أَن النَوى ضَرب مِن الآجال

    Beauties emerge in the star clusters, and branches appeared in the volumes of traveled mounts

    From every alluring doe of the thicket, a gorgeous and deer-like one winks at me

  6. ظَعنوا فَكُلُ أَخي هَوى وَصَبابة

    وَقف عَلى التِذكار وَالتَسئال

    Whose fairness the youth watered and dressed their mantles in company of coquetry

    The glances do not stumble under it unless with whiteness or brownness of gazelles

  7. وَلهان تَذكرُهُ المَعاهد وَالدُمى

    وُرق الأَراك وَنَسمة الآصال

    The emaciations display flirtation so the doting guardian thinks it is emaciations of boredom

    Tell the blamer over craze in passion, “Leave me for you have no part in love and what is mine”

  8. شغل الفُؤاد بِعاطِلات خرَّد

    مُذ قَلدت بِدماهُ فَهِيَ جَوالي

    That I lean for the beauties with nature, like the son of mynah to bestowals

    My master but master of time and one whose traces became examples of examples

  9. يَطلَعنَ في فُلك الحدوج أَهلة

    وَغُصون بانَ في مُتون رحال

    Abdul Latif, the composer and ink which its remoteness blackened it from forms

    To merit, his hands planted orchards so he harvested with it ripe fruits and grand values

  10. مِن كُل مخطفة الحَشا فَتانة

    تَرنو بِعَيني جُؤذر وَغَزال

    This whom without his sublimity, our times would not be blessed fortuity

    This whom clouds of his palm give on the day of bestowal with pouring heavy rain

  11. رود سَقاها الحُسن ماء شَبيبة

    وَكَسا مَعاطفها برود دَلال

    He takes pains and merits making gear, and protection for honor not for money

    How much verses of piety were written on the cheek of the fool from proof and example

  12. لا تَعثر اللَحظات دون كناسها

    إِلّا بِبيض أَو بِسُمر عَوالي

    No breeze in the two valleys if it blew among gardens in a night of trains

    Hypocrisy spent the night maybe towards life until it became aromatic from the mounts

  13. تُبدي الصُدود تَلاعُباً فَيظنهُ

    مِن جَهلِهِ الواشي صُدود مَلال

    A day with most fragrant of his traits which pour out generosity and beauty of morals

    O son of the most righteous, the emaciation of poverty was not but they are its shadiest shadows

  14. قُل لِلعذول عَلى الغِواية في الهَوى

    دَعني فَمالك في الغَرام وَمالي

    With your arrival, Damascus cheered and its spaces turned narrow valleys to burdens

    And with you days became full moons after their joy erased with erasing crescent

  15. أَني لَأَصبوا لِلحسان سَجية

    مثل اِبن مِنقار إِلى الإِفضال

    And time’s sullen face smiled and breezes of blessing opened flower of hopes

    By God if it were not for generosity of your glory in the world, there would not be attainable bestowal

  16. مَولايَ بَل مَولى الزَمان وَمَن غَدَت

    آثارُهُ مَثَلاً مِن الأَمثال

  17. عَبد اللَطيف النَدب وَالحبر الَّذي

    أَقصاهُ سوددهُ عَن الأَشكال

  18. لِلفَضل قَد غَرَسَت يَداهُ مَغارِساً

    فَجَنى بِها ثَمَري عَلاً وَمَعالي

  19. هَذا الَّذي لَولا عُلاهُ لَم تَكُن

    أَوقاتُنا مَيمونة الإِقبال

  20. هَذا الَّذي تَذري سَحائب كَفِهِ

    يَوم النَوال بِعارض هطال

  21. تَخذ المَساعي وَالفَضائل عدّة

    وَصِيانة لِلعَرض لا لِلمال

  22. كَم لِلغَبي عَلى أُسرَّة وَجهِهِ

    كُتب التُقى مِن شاهد وَمِثال

  23. ما نسمة بِالواديين إِذا سَرَت

    بَينَ الرِياض بِلَيلة الأَذيال

  24. ريّاءُ باتَ لَعَلَها صَوب الحَيا

    حَتّى اِغتَدَت نَشوى مِن الجريال

  25. يَوماً بِأَطيب مِن خَلائِقِهِ الَّتي

    تَفتَرُّ عَن كَرم وَحُسن خلال

  26. يابن الأَولى ما كانَ قَيظ نَحوفة

    إِلّا وَكانوا هُم أَتَم ظَلال

  27. بِقِدومك اِبتَهَجَت دِمَشق وَبَدَلَت

    أَرجاؤُها الأَمراع بِالأَمحال

  28. وَغَدَت بِكَ الأَيّام بَدراً بَعدَما

    مَحقت بَشاشَتها محاق هِلال

  29. وَتَبَسم الزَمَن العَبوس وَفَتَحَت

    نَسَماتُ بَرك زَهرةَ الآمال

  30. تَاللَهِ لَولا جود مَجدك في الوَرى

    ما كانَ في الدُنيا مَنال نَوال
