How long must I see you angry, forgetful of our covenant?

Your form is all suppleness, yet your heart is hard.

By your life, grant me one draught of your lips’ nectar,

for the drinking companion has withheld my cup from me.

I am not one who gave youth all its due,

and the hands of gray age have seized me by the head.

It has left me trembling like a branch, in anguish,

as I remember nights—may all my senses be their ransom—

nights when I was the evening companion, and my wine

was the dusky hue of your lips; from your cheeks came my rose and my myrtle.
