1. دارٌ عَلَيها وَحشة وَقتامُ

    ذَهَبت بِرَونَق حُسنِها الأَيّام

    A house upon which desolation and darkness have fallen

    The days have taken away its beauty and splendor

  2. كانَت بِها شَمس السَعادة لَم تَغب

    مِن حَولِها كُل البُدور قِيام

    The sun of happiness that once shone on it has now set

    While all the houses around it stand tall

  3. سُبحان مَن قرن الخُروج مِن الحِما

    بِالقَتل لَما اِستَولَت الحُكام

    Glory to Him who ordained death as we depart life

    When tyrants assume power and reign

  4. لا العَيش عَيش بَعدَ سُكان الحِما

    كُلاً وَلا تِلكَ الخِيام خِيام

    Neither life is life after the inhabitants have gone

    Nor are those tents, tents anymore

  5. ذَهب الشَباب فَلا أَنيس بَعدَهُ

    وَأَتى المُشيب فَلا عَلَيهِ سَلام

    Youth has departed, and there is no joy left after it

    And old age has come, with no peace upon it

  6. أَو ما تَراهُ فُضة في عارِضي

    سَبَكتُهُ في نيرانِها الأَيّام

    Or haven’t you seen the silver in its cheeks

    Which the days have cast into their fires

  7. بيض النُصول تَجَرَدَت مِن جِفنِها

    فَعَلى الحَياة تَحية وَسَلام

    The whites of its eyes have been stripped of their lids

    So upon life – greetings and peace

  8. فَإِذا الحَبيب أَسا بِنا أَو أَحسَنا

    نَرضى بِذاكَ وَما عَلَيهِ ملام

    When the beloved wrongs us or does good

    We accept that and do not blame him

  9. تَرَكوا حَلاوة كُل عَيش عَلقَماً

    تَردي النُفوس وَتَسقَم الأَسقام

    They left the sweetness of life bitter

    Souls deteriorate and diseases multiply

  10. لَيسَت تَطيب لَنا حَياة بَعدَهُم

    كانَت ضِياء عَيونِنا الآرام

    Life does not taste good after they have gone

    They were the radiance of our eyes and our tranquility

  11. ما كُنت أَرضى بِالمَجرة مَورِداً

    وَظَلالَها وَأَحبَتي ما داموا

    I would not be satisfied with the shelter as an abode

    Its shade and my loved ones as long as they lived

  12. لَيَتَ الحَياةَ تَزول بَعد ذَهابِهُم

    شَطوا فَما بَعدَ المرام مَرام

    Would that life would cease after their departure

    They went, so what after the goal is a goal

  13. قَصر عَلى فَلك السَعادة شادَهُ

    المَنجِكيّ مُحَمَد الضرغام

    The palace that the Al-Manjiki, Muhammad Al-Durgham built

    On the orbit of happiness has collapsed

  14. فَسَقَت ضَريحاً قَد حَواهُ سَحابة

    تَهمي عَلَيهِ رَحمة وَسَلام

    And became a tomb covered by a cloud

    Upon which mercy and peace rain

  15. مَن آل منجك طابَ نَشر حَديثِهم

    كَالزَهر في الأَكمام حَيث أَقاموا

    Those from the Al-Manjiki family, their mention is fragrant

    Like flowers in buds wherever they settle

  16. قَوم صَغيرُهُم كَبير في العُلا

    يَهوى الجَميل وَلَم يَرَعهُ فِطام

    A people whose young are elders in glory

    Who love beauty and are not deterred from it even when weaned

  17. قَوم إِذا رَكِبوا الجِياد لِمَوقف

    نَبَتوا رَباً وَعَلى الكِرام كِرام

    A people, if they ride steeds to battle

    They sprout as lords and the generous among the generous

  18. قَومٌ إِذا سَلَت ذُكور سُيوفِهم

    قَتل النِساء الهمّ وَالاَوهام

    A people, if the blades of their swords are unleashed

    Sorrow and worries kill women

  19. قَد مَجني أَجلي وَكُنتُ أَرومَهُ

    يَوم النَوى إِذا شَطَت الأَقوام

    My death which I was aiming for has come upon me

    On the day of intention, when people migrate

  20. غَيري يُبالي بِالفَخار وَأَنَّني

    فَحل الرِجال وَرُتبة وَمَقام

    Others care about pride while I

    Am among men, of rank and status

  21. إِذ منشأي قَد كانَ تَحتَ سَرادق

    خدّامها الصَمصام وَالقمقام

    For my origin was under a canopy

    Whose servants were the informants and spies

  22. جدي الَّذي مَلك البِلاد بَرَأيِهِ

    لا بِالجُنود الباسل البَسام

    My grandfather who ruled the country with his wisdom

    Not with brave armies and swords

  23. قَد كانَ مَملوكاً وَأَصبَحَ مالِكاً

    كُل المُلوك بِبابِهِ خدّام

    He was a slave and became master

    Of all the kings, his doorkeepers

  24. قَد عمر الخانات في سُبل الهُدى

    لَم يَحصِها صُحف وَلا أَقلام

    He built hospices on the path of guidance

    Uncounted by pages or pens

  25. تِسعاً وَتسعيناً بَناها مُخلِصاً

    ذاكَ الأَمير المُحسن المنعام

    Ninety nine of them he built sincerely

    That generous, benevolent prince

  26. دار الأَمير أَبو المَعالي منجك

    مِن دون بَعض بِنائِها الأَهرام

    The house of Prince Abu Al-Ma’ali Al-Manjiki

    Among some of his towering buildings

  27. وَلَهُ قُصور شَيِدَت فَوق العُلا

    بَوّابها الإِجلال وَالاعظام

    And he has palaces built over heights

    Guarded by might and greatness

  28. وَمَساجد قَد أُسِسَت بِيَد التُقا

    فيها رِجال سُجَّد وَقِيام

    And mosques founded by the hand of piety

    In them, men who prostrate and stand in prayers

  29. ملك إِذا أَم الضُيوف جَنابُهُ

    يَدعو القَرى لِسَبيلِهِ الأَنعام

    A king who, when guests approach his side

    Calls villages to provide them with gifts

  30. مَلك إِذا سَلَّت صَوارم جُندِه

    عِيدانُها الهندي وَالصَمصام

    A king who, when the blades of his soldiers are unsheathed

    Their handles Indian and Damascene

  31. ملك إِذا إِزدَحَم المُلوك بِمَورد

    صَدَروا لَهُ وَقُلوّبهنَّ أَوام

    A king, if kings crowd around a watering place

    They make way for him and their hearts quiver

  32. ملك إِذا ضَنَ السَحاب بِوَبلِهِ

    فاضَت بِحار مِن يَدَيهِ سِجام

    A king, if the clouds stint in sending down their rain

    Torrents flow from his hands unhindered

  33. إِن ضَلت الضيفان عَن أَبوابِهِ

    يَهديهم لِسَبيلِهِ الإِكرام

    If the two guests lose their way to his doors

    He guides them to the path of his generosity

  34. وَلها مَواقد مِن لَظى نِيرانها

    يَدعو بِالسنة القُراء الإِضرام

    And it has furnaces whose raging fires

    Invite the Quran reciters to light

  35. سَجروا بِهاتيك المَواقد عَنبَراً

    إِذ أَمطَروا مِن راحَتيهِ سِجام

    With these furnaces, ambergris they have burned

    As they sprinkled from his palm poisoned arrows

  36. تَبّاً لَدُنيانا فَكُل صَنيعها

    أَبَداً شُرور وَالسُرور مَنام

    Curse this world, all its makings

    Are forever evils and joys, dreams

  37. أَفعالُنا أَفعى لَنا ما بَينَنا

    تَسعى لِمهلكنا وَنَحنُ نِيام

    Our deeds are vipers between us

    Seeking our doom while we sleep

  38. ذلَّت وَجُوه الناس إِذ قَعس الحجا

    وَتَعاظَمَت سفل الرِجال وَقاموا

    The faces of people have been disgraced as the ignorant rose

    And the lowly became great and stood up

  39. ذَهب الَّذين يعاش في أَكنافِهم

    وَبَقيت في خَلف هُم الأَنعام

    Those in whose care life was good have gone

    And in their place are left the cattle

  40. إِني لِأَشهَد إِنَّ رَبي واحد

    وَنَبيهُ لِلمُرسَلين أَمام

    I bear witness that my Lord is One

    And His prophet is the foremost of the messengers

  41. ميل القُلوب إِلى سِواهُ ضَلالة

    وَسِوى المُهيمن كُلَها أَصنام

    Inclining hearts to other than Him is misguidance

    And anything besides the Guardian is an idol

  42. صَلى الإِلَه عَلى النَبيّ وَآلِهِ

    وَعَلى صَحابَتِهِ رِضاً ما داموا

    May God bestow blessings and peace upon the Prophet and his family

    And his companions, as long as they last

  43. هَذي المَظاهر وَالظَواهر كُلَها

    فِتَن لَدَيك وَكَلَها أَحلامُ

    These apparent signs and manifestations

    Are temptations for you, and all of them, dreams
