1. سائق الظَعن بِالحدوج تَأَنّى

    وَاِقطَع البيد وَالسَباسب وَهنا

    The driver of camels was slow in the sands

    And cut through wastelands and brambles hither

  2. لَيسَ يَشفي لَكَ الوَجيف غَليلاً

    أَسلَمتُهُ إِلى فوادك لبنى

    No carrion would quench your heart's thirst

    I surrendered it to your affection sincerely

  3. ذات صَد يُذيب كُل جَليدٍ

    وَجَفاءٍ لَو عَنَّ لِلصَخر أَنّى

    Of a bosom that melts all ice

    And dryness, had it hardened rocks, would soften

  4. ما ثَناها العِتاب يَوماً لِعَطفٍ

    وَهِيَ في العَين بانة تَنثني

    No admonishing ever dissuaded it from kindness

    Evident in eyes, it bends and sways

  5. أَودَعتَني لَدى الوَداع إِلتِهاباً

    وَذرت أَدمُعي فِرادى وَمَثنى

    When we parted, you left me in fervor

    My tears flowed singly and in pairs

  6. يا سقت دارَها السَحائب عَني

    إِنَّ هَذا البُكاءِ لِلدَمع أَفنى

    O clouds, water her abode in my stead

    For this weeping has exhausted my tears

  7. طالَما قَد خَلست لَذة عَيشٍ

    في ذراها وَنِلت ما أَتمَنى

    Long has the joy of life

    Stolen amidst her homes, and I attained what I wished

  8. وَلَثمت الثَغور فيها أَقاحاً

    وَهَصرت القُدود غُصناً فَغُصنا

    I kissed the lips among them till sated

    And plucked the branches, branch after branch

  9. لَهف قَلبي عَلى مَضي لَيالٍ

    في دُجاها نَبهت كاساً وَدَنّا

    My heart yearned for nights gone by

    In their darkness, I roused a cup and drew nearer

  10. وَيَفض الحَديث فيهنَّ شادٍ

    يَستَفز النُهى إِذا ما تَغَنى

    Conversation flowed unrestrained

    Inciting censure when it sang

  11. لَستُ أَرضى لَها بَديلاً وَلَكن

    مَدح هَذا الأَمير عَنهنَّ أَغنا

    I find no substitute satisfactory, but

    Praising this prince distracts me from them

  12. ماج بَحراً وَجالَ لَيث عَرينٍ

    وَسَطا صارِماً وَأَقبَل لَدُنا

    He surged like a raging sea and roared like a lion in its den

    Brandishing a blade, he approached us

  13. راقياً بِالفَخار كُل عَليٍّ

    ساحِباً فَوقَ هامة الشُهب ردنا

    Nobler than any Ali in pride

    Raising above the gray-haired a banner

  14. يا مُفيد الأَنام رَفداً وَفَضلاً

    وَمُعير البُدور نوراً وَحُسنا

    O benefactor of mankind, with bounty and favor

    And illuminator of full moons with light and beauty

  15. قَد هَززناكَ في المَكارم عَضباً

    وَاِستَلمناكَ في النَوائب رُكنا

    We have tested you with wrath in virtues

    And found you a pillar in adversities

  16. وَوَجدناكَ أَرأف الناس بِالنا

    س حَنوّاً وَأَكثَر الناس حُسنا

    We found you the most compassionate of men in sympathy

    And the best of men in goodness

  17. فتَّ طائيهم عَطاءً وَمَبنىً

    وَبِطيب الثَنا جدَّك مَعنا

    So pitch to them a tent of generosity and care

    And with a sweet tongue, endear yourself to us

  18. وَسَموَت العباد عَدلاً وَحُلماً

    وَمَلَكتُ البَلاد سَهلاً وَحُزنا

    You exalted people with justice and forbearance

    And ruled lands with ease and care

  19. وَهَديت الكُهول مِن كُلِ قُطر

    لِلمَعالي وَأَنتَ أَصغَرُ سِنّا

    You guided elders from every region

    To the heights, while you are the youngest

  20. لَو وَزَنّا بِكَ المُلوك اِمتِحاناً

    في العَطايا لَكُنتَ أَرجَح وَزنا

    If we weighed kings against you in a test

    Of generosity, you would be heaviest in weight

  21. مَن يَقيس بِكَ الشُموس بَهاءً

    حاشَ لِلّه أَنتَ أَبهى وَأَسنا

    Who can compare suns to you in splendor?

    God forbid, you are the most brilliant and lofty

  22. قَسَماً بِاِبتِهاج وَجهِكَ في الحَر

    ب وَبيض الظِبا إِذا النَقع جَنّا

    I swear by the joy in your face in war

    And by the white antelopes when they glanced askance

  23. ما نُفوس العِداة عِندَكَ إِلّا

    زَهرات بِحَدّ سَيفِكَ تَجنا

    The souls of foes are but

    Flowers severed by the blade of your sword

  24. وَإِذا ما امرِءٌ تَغاضيت عَنهُ

    غادَرَتهُ الخُطوب في الترب رَهنا

    When you pardon a man

    Misfortunes leave him be, indebted

  25. لِيَ قَلبٌ لَديك أَقرب شَيء

    وَخُلوص إِذا تَباعَدت عَنا

    My heart is closest to you

    And my loyalty, though we are distanced

  26. أَنتَ ماءَ الأَماني أَخصَب وَاديهِ

    وَرَقَت رِياضَهُ فَالتَجَأنا

    You are the most fertile valley of hopes

    And its meadows have flourished, so we sought refuge

  27. كَيفَ نَرمي مِن الزَمان بُروع

    وَلَنا في ظلال جاهِكَ سَكنى

    How can we fear adversity

    When we reside in the shade of your glory?

  28. لا وَهِيَ رُكنَك الَّذي صارَ لِلنا

    س مَلاذاً وَلا عَفا لَك مَغنا

    No, it is your pillar which has become

    A refuge for people, may you have no deficiency
