صَحَ فيهِ حَديث عَيشيَ لَما
مَرَّ يَعتل في الرِياض النَسيمُ
My life's tale was set right when
The breeze blew gently through the gardens.
نَظمتنا أَيدي المُنى فَكَأنا
لِنُحور الوِداد عقد نَظيمُ
Our fates were woven by hands of affection, so we
Became like necklaces of love and esteem.
ظَلت نَشوان إِذ تَنبهُ شَوقي
وَعَذولي وَإِن أَفاق نؤَمُّ
My passion and longing remained
Though sorrow departed and joy returned.
وَغَدير أَرق مِن زَمَن اللَه
و عَلَيهِ طَير الرَجاءِ يَحومُ
It was a stream of sleeplessness in eras gone by,
With birds of hope hovering over it.
فَهُوَ كَالأَيم في إِنسياب تبدى
وَعَليهِ مِن الحباب رَقومُ
It flows like a torrent revealed,
With foam of love upon it.
وَأخلّاء كَالنُجوم فَمنها
لي سُعود وَللأَعادي رجومُ
And friends like stars - among them
Are my fortune and others, my defense.
حازَ مِنّا وَصف أَيسَر مجد
قَد حَواهُ المَنطوق وَالمَفهومُ
He attained from me the easiest praise -
Captured by speech and meaning.
قَلَدَتني يَداهُ نعماً فَدَهري
مَع بَنيهِ بشكرها لا يَقومُ
His hands adorned me with favors, so my life
Along with his children, cannot repay.
