The days have squeezed the water of his beauty,
And his stature bent like a willow branch.
He was a gazelle whose eyelids were a hunting ground,
And a branch graced by the fullness of the moon.
He was a morning in every festive night,
He was a sun dispelling the darkness.
The rule of beauty has departed and turned away,
So peace, peace be upon our Syria.
