What harm if their phantom visited its likeness?

That one whom today his bed wearies,

And sleep - where is it? - while after them remains

the door of sadness upon which the hand of one wishing for death knocks.

Death for me is the sweetest thing to be gained

If the house becomes desolate and separation prolonged.

No prisoner of passion enters the fire

Since no inhabitant of torment sees paradise.
